Site Migration - EQFA 3.0
« on: March 11, 2012, 10:10:28 AM »

Please post here if you have any problems or questions with the new site. I'll be helping the new admins/mods get things fully polished and set up, but I figured we could re-open the site while we're working on the rest of that.

This theme is a temporary one while Maggie works on something that uses her snazzy artwork (she did the pretty header up there as well.)

Admins/Moderators:

Maggie
Treefox
DestinysGift
Tevokkia
Foxeye (temporary during transition)

Changes:

- All your PMs are gone. :(  On the upside, I didn't have to wipe passwords after all, but was able to transfer those securely.

- Mature art and Rants via voluntary membergroups - This is an awesome new feature in SMF 2.0 :)  If you wish to access the Rants forums you now voluntarily choose to join the membergroup called "AdultSwim". Similarly there is a membergroup called MatureArtAccess that will be used to access mature-only albums. There will be how-to's posted in due time.

- No more site-enforced art-per-day throttle. Instead the daily limit will be enforced by the mods...art over this limit will be "unapproved" temporarily. This is to ensure that everyone shares equal time on the New Artwork page. The new  limit is 4 image uploads per day.

- No more c/c setting :( Alas, this was a feature that was too hard to migrate. Nothing says you can't manually write what level of c/c you want, though.

NOTE: Secure log-on (SSL) is not currently implemented! This may change sometime in the next few days, but for now, please don't log onto this site from any wide-open wireless networks...people might be able to sniff out your logon information!

I think this looks great so far!  I really like the interim theme, even; very restful. :)

I have one question so far:

Can there / will there be an option with the Member Albums to sort them in different ways, like alphabetically, or even by something like "albums with things added most recently"?   The second idea just occurred to me.  The first is how they were sorted in the past, whereas now, I can't figure out what their sort order is. (Created?)

I'm just wondering because, especially now that they appear the way they do (rather than a gallery page with just the top image and name), there's 16 pages worth of galleries, and it makes them hard to scan through.  I have no idea which users might be on what page of that list, if I was trying to find somebody's gallery... and sometimes, when I'm scanning for someone's gallery, I would rely on the icon images to recognize their style if I wasn't sure of the name.

Unfortunately the old page was something that was heavily custom-coded, so no, there won't be a way to sort it in a more user-friendly fashion. :(  (It's sorted by user id, I believe, which means by sign-up date.)

Wohoo. It seems like a lot of stuff is done here. Awesome. I wish I wasn't so horribly busy atm so I could finally give some comments to all the calendar art.
Good luck with tweaking the site.

Anybody having tech info about the server hardware, filesystems and so on?
I just recently checked prices here for various forms of hosting and the close you came to having real hardware+root rights the louder I cried when I saw the prices. ;)

Yeah!  I'm so happy the site is here and so is everyone!  I tried posting in this topic all day and kept getting error messages.  I was really worried!  And I think the default layout is pretty and calming  :)

ATTENTION!

For folks who are experiencing time-outs and/or problems logging out, this may be because the site's cookie changed.  If you can, please try clearing your browser's cookies.

If you do that and it doesn't fix the problem, please post here with the time that the error occurred and/or the error message you get. I haven't seen the problem myself, so I need more data from those who have. :)

THanks!

Even though I delete all cookies and browsing history, I still cannot log out or post in the forum section most of the times. Here are the error messages that I get:

OK...I tried something that may help, but I'm not holding my breath. I have a secondary approach to try, but it's not something I have time to do at this moment. :(  That said, before I can get to this tomorrow, let me know if the problem *has* magically gone away!

Thanks so much Foxeye! Sadly, I still cannot log out. Also, still very difficult to post in the forum section.
I have to delete all my browsing history and cookies to be able to make one post. After one post it stops working again.

OK, implemented the possible fix, but sadly it requires one more cookie clearing session from those who are effected. Let me know if it does or does not help.

Seems to be working, I can login and logout at will (so exciting) but the site is lagging even more. Is that because of the reduction in MB's?

EDIT

Ooh, I posted this message without it telling me the session had timed out...whee!

Excellent :) Found the fix here on SMF's forum: Link

The site lag is related to CPU usage and not memory. Evidently PHP is using a lot of CPU. I'll follow up on this with you in an email.
