I'm kinda of two minds on the subject. On the one hand: if most of the members don't like it or have any use for it, it should go. But, on the other hand, I was something under the impression that this version of EQFanArt wanted to emphasize an artist-based, critique-driven feel. Which is hard to accomplish without some sort of structured feedback (good, bad, or indifferent.) It doesn't much help an artist with their work or technique if the only comments they get are, "wow, I really liked your stuff". But, even I (loudmouthed, crass, opinionated Go-Back that I am) hesitate to comment/rate for any artist unless I know them and/or they're on top of their game. First off, I'd feel too bad about giving someone less than three stars if they weren't expecting or prepared for getting an honest opinion, and second, who needs the heartache and hassle of (well-meaning) defenders jumping into to the mix to tell a poster how wrong they were to rate/say what they did? Who wants to cause misunderstandings or flame wars?
Personally, I welcome any and all comments that someone wants to make on my art (as long as they actually pertain to the work). How else to help myself get better or pursue wider options. But, I also know not everyone who posts here feels that way.
