Mist Valley Holt
« on: March 30, 2009, 07:22:09 AM »

Mist Valley Holt is a Wolfrider based holt in the OQ style, with elves, trolls and humans. The wolfriders live in a valley and are surrounded by hills, in a thick forest. The trolls live in the mountains closeby, but a few decades back trades have been cut off when the former chief betrayed the trolls. There is no contact with the human village up north -- after the human massacre that resulted in the loss of their previous holt, the elves are weary of making any contact.

The holt's website can be found at http://www.losteuphoria.com/mistvalley. The forum is directly accessible through http://www.frozenleaves.com/mistvalley.

Mist Valley has new adoptables!

Flint ; 110 years old, hunt leader, son of Newmoon and Goldstar. Though he was named for the colour of his hair as a babe, Flint could have well be named for the characteristics of that material as well. He’s sharp and cutting, and occasionally causes sparks. Despite his strong opinions, he is very charismatic and can often sooth the hurt he words can cause – when he wants too. Flint is also very intelligent and has a knack for predicting herd behaviour. This hunting skill and his confident manner combined make him an easy choice for leader for hunting parties. While he’s often quiet, contemplative and serious, at social occasions he easily joins in the stories and laughter.

Shadow Pool has new adoptables!

Oakmist; 873 years old, hunter, tanner and elder, father of Coolsong, brother of Nightwreath. Oakmist is a friendly elf, and enjoys being surrounded by his friends. He has a strong tendency towards directness, and his bluntness frequently causes minor and shortlived disagreements with his tribemates. However, truth is truth and sending and since Oakmist isn’t malicious most of his tribemates get over their irritation – eventually. Oakmist’s passion is tanning, turning the messy, ugly icky hides and skins saved from the hunt into sturdy leather, hardened armor, and soft, supple suede. However, he has absolutely no interest in designing clothing for his tribemates.

Tallow; 623 years old, soap and candle maker, no family alive. Tallow has a calm, controlled, and self-contained personality. Everyone knows him, but few really ‘know’ him. He doesn’t talk about himself, his past, his thoughts, or his dreams. He’s not rude, he’s not abrupt, but he seeks no one’s company. His life has taught him that friendship is fleeting, and safety lies in solitude. Being part of a tribe is necessary for survival, so he worked hard to find a niche that no one else was filling and made it his own. He goes about his self-appointed duties without consulting anyone, and his tribemates find candles and soap always in supply in the storage dens, and their clothing cleaned and neatly folded just inside their dens.

Talon; 9 years old, cub, son of Brazen, Rainroot and Drumbeat. Talon is a responsible cub... but still prone to cubling games and mischief. Excelling, or hard working to become so. Likes training with his sling arrow. Sometimes lonely, due to lack of agemates, but this encourages him to act more grown-up. Born outside of Recognition seems to have only made him more prone to getting sick first, but little else. Mostly considers Rainroot his father since Brazen is openly lifemated with him, but he has another in playful Drumbeat.

For future plots, Mist Valley has re-opened character creation! Send me a message or email me at queststar@home.nl for more info, if you're interested :-)

Plot Update:

Chieftess Halfnote has led a warrior party into the recently discovered troll tunnel, after Ripple was kidnapped by trolls. They recovered the youngster after hours, near the troll's homes, and discovered that a bunch of presumed dead elves were still alive!
They have gone missing over the years, but in fact, the trolls kept them as workers. Families reunite, but danger's lurking! The trolls are attacking the elves -- two elves are injured, and more trolls have died, but the flow of those creatures doesn't seem to end soon. Halfnote's ordered to retreat to the tunnel they came through, but then a horn sounds, and the heavy footsteps of the troll turn and fade into the opposite direction. What does that mean? Are they safe? And where are Rivulet and Vision?

~*~

The ones that stayed behind suffered, as well. Half a day after the rescue party left, Trueblade, Iceglare and Kearen discovered trolls crashing through the protective thorn wall. With Strangleweed gone with the rescue party, there's no plantshaper strong enough to reinforce it.

The trolls pulled through, and though the elves and the wolfpack are trying to head off the attack, more and more elves suffer from injuries. Taellin's bleeding heavily, Greendream has been shot and Iceglare has fallen from the tree. Greendream's clever thinking got the preserver to wrap Taellin, until one of the herbal healers can tend to her wounds. One of the trolls is fleeing, which gives only a spark of hope!

More to come...

Plot Update:

After the remnants of the horrible fight in the holt had been removed, and the once-missing elves had been thorougly welcomed back into the holt, there is a new challenge just before winter sets in: Will they have enough food and supplies to survive the winter, now there are eight more of them? Most herds have migrated south because the cold has set in already.
Halfnote and a party are off to do the unthinkeable - they are off to the human village to steal supplies but it is not going as smooth as she had hoped.

Back in the holt, the damage on the thorn wall is being investigated, several hunting parties are desperately trying to find any prey that still wanders these woods, and the former captives are trying to find their place in their old home again - Much has changed since they disappeared. And who is this strange elf Lunar, who suddenly popped up and rambles about vague people and words?

~*~

At the other side of the Whitecold Mountains, a group of elves has been snowed in. Following Chief Nettle's daughter Lunar who seemed to have a plan after their old holt was destroyed, the group came to a halt when Lunar disappeared. Chiefs Nettle and Frostbite contemplate on what to do, because food is getting scarce and the shared cave doesn't make things easier. However, Brightfire found a crack in the wall, which she has tried to investigate with her son Twilight before. Frostbite is taking a small party to check it out, and hopefully find some food.

Emotions run high when everyone is hungry; can they all keep their wits together till either they find a way out of the caves, or find some food?

We have several adoptables again on both sides of the mountain, check the first post ! :-)

Plot Update:

Mist Valley:
Winter is approaching fast, and with so many extra elves to take care of, the storage dens need to be filled. However, a lot of the herds already migrated for the winter, so Halfnote chose the most extreme option so far: She has taken five others to steal from the humans. Eat or be eaten, and wolves steal too, if they're hungry enough. So far, they haven't been spotted yet, but now, she wants to enter a building to check what's inside... In the holt, two parties have ridden out to hunt whatever they can find, while others are setting out fishing lines or get (re)acquainted with long lost and new tribesmates.

Shadow Pool:
Under the leadership of chief Frostbite, a small party investigated a small crack in the wall, surprised by the space behind it. Oakmist's wolf has bolted off into the found tunnel, and has vanished in the darkness. However, from what they can sense, the wolf is not in danger. What will they find at the end of the tunnel - food, or enemies?
Meanwhile, efforts are being made to melt the frozen snow that blocks the entrance but so far, it is just talks and a few bloody wounds. Drumbeat makes an effort to tell a story, however, Enigma interferes -- what story will young Talon hear?

We still have a couple of adoptables!

In Mist Valley:

Gale - Male, 7 years old, Cub. Gale is a real cub, always running around, wanting to discover things, learn things and have some fun. He hates it when he’s told off, but usually forgets about his anger as soon as he thinks of a new plan or game (which is rather quickly). He dislikes seeing his mother in a really dreamy state, and will usually start talking to her and dragging her around until he thinks she’s totally back in this world. The return of his father troubles Gale; he has to get used of having a real father, however, Greenthorn seems to be more wolf than elf and it confuses the cub.

Ripple - Female, 12 years old, Cub. Ripple is mature for her age and sometimes and already has a somewhat sarcastic kind of humor. She's very proud of her good bond with Silhouette -- being taken seriously by an adult means the world to her. Although she likes playing with Gale, she sometimes finds his games too childish and will prefer adult attention. She loves to hear stories and music, too, but is not motivated to pick up an instrument herself, much to her mother's dismay. She wants to be treated as an adult too, but to her irritation everyone still sees her as a cub. She takes after her father, which is a great companion to her with all the patience in the world to teach her whatever she wants - he spoils her.

In Shadow Pool:

Oakmist - Male, 873 years old, Hunter/Tanner/Bowyer/Fletcher. The most important thing in Oakmist’s life right now is his daughter. After losing a lifemate and two children, he treasures the one he now has, and can be very unreasonable if he thinks that she’s in danger or hurt. He has also more or less adopted Mooncat after her parents died, and he dotes on her.

Talon - Male, 9 years old, Cub.
