Yeah...there was a downed power line RIGHT in front of my office in Venice. And a couple of my co-workers haven't had power in their homes since mid Wed.

I think that sounds perfect! (And takes some of the pressure off of the ones doing the formatting)

I hope the later calendar art will be held for a however long it takes to finish the art / formatting...ect. That way each individual calendar will get a bit of spotlight time.

I also think there is a great deal of artistic license when coloring the characters. Cutter's hair, for example has been shown nearly white; and Strongbow started out as brown, then evolved into that nearly wine color, that he's been seen sporting recently.

There's probably no "right"; but personally I've always seen her as more yellow blonde.

Agree with Afke. Especially if the surface is soft, like a bed, you're going to want to involve it in the drawing as soon as possible. This includes backgrounds, imho, the sooner you can get things placed, however roughly, helps you shape the composition entire. I think that's where some people are having difficulty with this year's calendar. You don't get a good composition if you draw 3 separate pictures and then just try to stick them together at the last minute.

Art and Elfquest / Re: Inking water?
« on: December 13, 2010, 12:05:21 AM »
Hmmmm....I don't think that there's really any specific things you should keep in mind when inking water. There would be more in the way you handle the coloring stage, depending on how realistic you want it to be.... The only think I can think of is that the surface of the water should be relatively smooth, not really wavy like it seems to be in the rough lines you've made. The surface tension of the water and the fact that it's a still pond (or how will you see the ripples!) would mean that most of the motion of the ripples would effect the lines horizontally and not vertically (more side to side and less up and down). Hope that makes sense, it's pretty late. lol
I read somewhere else that you were using the pen tool to do this. Very ambitious of you, lol. Some people favor it, but I absolutely don't - I usually don't see results worth the effort - so I just use the brush tool. I think if you really want to use a vector tool to ink, better to just do it in flash or illustrator (imho) But definitely a great technique to build patience and technical skill.

I may be totally out this year. (unless we don't have 12 entries) The hubby is doing better but I think I have pneumonia again, just to spice things up. And my company is launching our big iphone / ipad app Monday.... so I can't even THINK of starting anything before then. I did riffle through my computer to see if there was anything I could steal / finish to fit in to the theme...and of course there isn't. grr.

I doubt very much that I'll have anything...
My accident prone hubby is having 2 surgeries before the years end. (First one this Monday...)
We'll see. Maybe something simple. Gah! I always talk myself into and out of the calendar every year!!!

Crazy lovely work here. I feel like I've seen some of it before. Maybe when we went sailing long, long ago? And gouache? *shudders* Well, better you than me!
I absolutely love the last one. The translucent quality of the water is just lovely, and soooo difficult to capture.

Actually toxic-wise, smelly is a good thing. If it stinks, you take pains not to breathe it in. Stay away from odor-free Bug spray and stuff like that.....very bad for you, and you can't even tell....

I stuck with copics too when I did marker work.
One thing I can add is that they're safe. And by safe, I mean there's nothing harmful in them. In the US art supplies are not monitored because there is not unifying "industry"....so company's can put whatever warnings they want on stuff. Rubber Cement...the glue everyone gives to kids is probably some of the most harmful stuff out there.
....just fyi.
