Art and Elfquest / Re: 2015 Fan Calendar Guidelines
« on: October 15, 2014, 12:31:09 AM »
Started with 3 entries...entered one
But I do have more new art to share. I think my style has changed once again which it seems to every few years. I am very busy with hours at my job so as soon as I can get back to the desktop computer and scanner I will share some art.
Excited to see all these emotives!

I'm going to smash out my entries this week. Colouring digitally is not my strong point. I'll have to do some b/w just to make me feel better I look forward to seeing everyone's work!

Well, I am always the one late for topics - important or otherwise - but I decided to come amd comment as well anyway.
I do love this site and the art so am glad someone has been taking care of it. I know running sites, forums, etc is a lot of hard work, unrecognized hard work, so even if Maggie is not looking for praise I still bow before you! It is always sad when a site you grow fond of disappears from the great wide web and leaves an empty hole in your fandom.
I shall add to the "reasons for lack of involvement" -
- I made a giant move, leaving the desert for trees and water, and it definitely took some getting used to! Also found myself much more involved in work, community, and new friends than I was accustomed to. I'm rarely online the amount of time I had been years prior.
- Also I no longer own a "real" computer (desktop, laptop, nor netbook...take your pick) and mainly use my phone to get online or this tablet I am typing on now. I thought at first no big deal but using mobile/android is quite different (and sometimes frustrating). And as I'm lacking in talent for completing digital art attractively the long process of borrowing desktop and scanner for my drawn pieces is difficult motivation unless I have a deadline or a large batch of art to scan.
- And I too am in sickly mode. The move was to help my health and has not proven to be as helpful as expected. I don't share details of my condition, but it does get in the way of many things and drains me to the point I ignore several things I once spent a lot of time with. Silly me as art in one form or another is what makes me happy.
- I am a horrible commenter and even though I may stare at a piece of art for a good half hour I normally derp and can't do much but "...der...purty art..." but if everyone is happy with that I will oblige *lol*
Well, there are my "excuses"
oh...and I got a puppy
I will try to visit more often and get some art done to share as well.
I apologize for any typos or weird spacing...I don't post normally on any forums any more as this tablet is kinda annoying that way...

Art and Elfquest / Re: Calendar Theme Discussion 2013
« on: June 20, 2012, 10:22:44 AM »
I've been away for awhile due to life, but I'm back and still working on art Of course I'm excited about more calendar art! I'll be happy with whatever is chosen as it gives me reason to draw more EQ, but I did vote for the panel art because it was different and a challenge. I like to push myself with each new piece.
I also have concerns w/the panels as I am horrible at repeating like that. I do have an old piece of art I did that if I find it I might use the idea from lol But as I said whatever gets chosen I will be happy!

I was thinking the same thing about Ellie Poo! I've never heard of it, but it sounds interesting and although I'm highly into organic things I may just have to pass on drawing on dung from one of my fave animals lol But if it works for others go for it! Right now all I use is printer paper to do my sketches and ink work. I have an artist pad somewhere but haven't used it in years. I tried "sketch" paper but it smudges too much for me and my eraser XD Once I also tried another drawing paper and it was so hard and smooth I was uncomfortable with it as it wasn't rough enough. The picture although drawn never seemed to take to the paper....if that makes sense. To me plain paper comes to life once drawn on and this certainly did not!
I've been wanting to try vellum as well but fear my erasing might be too harsh upon it. I'm not sure what other paper to try as I'm basically a sketch/ink artist. I also have a hard time breaking myself in to new things when it concerns my art...old habits die hard I guess??? XD

They say a person's work place gives insight to their personality...idk lol but I too like seeing the little inside to people's life via their art set up. Mine is so minimum compared to everyone. I'll get a pic taken so everyone can laugh at it
Startear I drink coca cola when I draw...it just seems to be my art drink of choice.

I'm kinda envious lol Everyone has super cool places. I'm closer to Nilla and draw almost any where. I normally sit on the floor w/my back against the wall and sketch XD Now that I've begun practicing photoshop colouring it's still the same position lol

Art and Elfquest / Re: Member Characters
« on: March 17, 2012, 02:02:23 AM »
I have never, ever been able to write good character sheets. I know in my head how the character is and that's about it But I attempted Neve. Background coming soon!
Name: Neve
Birth-tribe: GoBack
Parents: Unknown, related to Urda one way or another, maybe.
Age: Several hundred
Appearance: Pale skin, even while in the Sun Village as she keeps most of it protected with arm covers and leggings. May occassionally turn pinkish on cheeks when out in the sun too long. Dark hair kept short which occassionally may behave itself and look styled, otherwise has a habit of sticking out in various places which she ignores. Eyes are dark, a bit more narrow than other elves, but the pupils and iris large for the narrow shape. Nose is small and a touch upturned at the end. Left side of the mouth turns up just a little, giving an appearance of perhaps a cynical or sarcastic nature. Stature is neither tall nor short, body shape trim, small chested and not much of a rear, not exceptionally slim nor athletic
Attire: Go-Back attire retailored for the warmer weather in the Sun Village. Soft grey top and shorts make up most of her outfit. Pale fur sleeve caps are kept upon her shoulders to remind herself and others of her birth tribe. Arm and leg covers in a dark wine colour are used to protect her pale skin from the sun as she did not enjoy the first time she was burnt and never intends to go through that again. A thick belt with a metal buckle hangs from her waist to keep her chosen weapon (one that looks like a large yoyo) close at hand. The only decoration she chooses to wear is a flower in her hair, a silent mark of the tribe she now lives with.
Role: Warrior/Protector
Skills: Handy with her yoyo, she can still use a range of other weapons in true Go-Back fashion. Not much else in skill, but she will not walk away when asked for help even when she has no idea what she's doing.
Personality: A bit mild mannered for a Go-Back she will still protect others when is needed. She still remembers hearing the words "elf does not kill elf" and seeing how other elves have acted towards one another fighting no longer sits well with her. But having been raised a Go-Back boredom strikes often and sitting still is not something she cares to do. If someone needs assistance she will help, often not knowing how or what she is doing, which can lead to a few injuries that might have been avoided if she had taken the time to ask "how". She is quite well behaved all in all considering, but there are times when she will just speak her mind when she can no longer stand the idle chatter or silly talk that goes on.
Background: True to the GoBack belief that you do not own a child, Neve does not know who her parents are. She was raised by many, taught their beliefs, trained as a warrior as they all are.
During the fight for the palace Neve was still a young warrior, never questioning the way she was raised or trained. The call of the Palace was just as strong to her as all the Go Backs and fighting the trolls to regain it made sense to her at the time. Living through the war and then the few years later when Rayek came and destroyed their lodge Neve's mind began to think differently and she was beginning to understand the strange conflict she had been living with for years.
Along with a few other elves she left the Go Backs to see if they could find something else, something they may be missing. Urda scolded her for deserting them, not waiting for the return of their chief, but Neve told her that waiting around and doing nothing was against the way she was raised. If she and her group were to find Khavi they would tell her where the rest of the tribe was and would most likely return with her.
It actually took them many years to come across the Sun Village, after Khavi came and went and several years after the disappearance of the Palace. What happened during those years Neve won't speak of, simply giving a shrug when asked. Her decision to remain in the Sun Village was based on a few things - the constant wandering would end, the Little Palace was there, and there wouldn't be fighting every day. Even with life a bit dull the village could be worse.
When Khavi returns attempting to steal the Little Palace Neve sides with the Sun Villagers, ashamed her birth tribe has come down to this. She remembered from years gone by hearing that "elf does not kill elf" so why should the tribes fight against each other? She remains with the Sun Villagers, not yet deciding to return to the Go-Backs.

Sorry I haven't been around! Moving has been killing me
I have the Winnowil grid art done and am inking it, but I have to work out on how to scan it and send it your way as I don't have cable right now and am hitting up wifi areas to access XD Also scanner is packed up still. UGH...
But on a good note Washington is very beautiful and I much prefer it over the desert
