zomg, some people work fast alright!
Say, how many dreamberries did you eat? ;)

As always, I'm lurking here in case anyone wants help with colouring :)
(unless I magically found some time and patience for own entry base)

I'm all for keeping the Calendar (and site) going!

Time and motivation isn't always on our side though,
but me and Rowtiger were up to the almost last minute
challenge last year :)

I do agree off-site advertisements and reminder posts
is a must, to enable more to enjoy the lovely calendars
and for more artists to participate!

Hmmyes, Contrasts.. can be a very wide topic,
could include Chiefs too ;)

drawn elves in aaages..]

I feel an itch in my fingers, but my drawing skills have been out of whack for looong..
But if there is a shortage of people wanting to colour stuff, give me a poke if you
want to team up :)

Psst, link at end of post, is not working!

It seems like we have a suitably large bunch of dedicated people that have signed up so far (but I'm fairly sure there's room for a few more, should anyone else be interested), so I'll simply nod to Warg's statement posted earlier :)

And Kael seems to have a very well tested and documented approach there, to make use of.
I guess the mods will learn more about the antispammy databases soon enough!

Warg has started fiddling with SMF stuff to learn the ropes, and judging by various exclamations, so far so good! ;) *keeps fingers crossed*

Quote from: Obi-Rak Kaeliri
That said, given the concerns voiced in this thread, I would recommend that the new hosts of the site distribute the site management load by enlisting the help of the community. This is actually something that has always been a part of our roadmap for phase-2 implementation strategy of this latest incarnation of EQFA (in addition to the feature roadmap): when Foxeye and I started this site the larger Elfquest community was too amorphous to draw upon, so we were left to our own devices to design and implement all aspects of this site. Now EQFA has a community to draw upon, and it might be beneficial to bring the community in on running and improving the site in limited fashion. Enlisting the help of moderators could be one way, but another way could be setting up contests for letting our CSS+XHTML savvy members design a new theme for the site.

*nodsnods*
An overall layout/theme challenge for the new incarnation of the site sounds like a good idea, and a splendid way to add to the revival and bonding between new and old members :)

I'd be happy to be act as admin/liaisons person for other mods and/or help keep Warg updated on stuff overall when the techy stuff needs fixing/changing, and we'll figure out the rest as it goes along!

And hm, appears the quote function appears oddly for me, will have to see if it's my browser or funky addons that are acting up or if we can bug Warg about it :P

Ohdear, this is sad news, especially since you've done such a great job with the site! And I concur, I do prefer the cosyness here than to the facebookeque ness of the latest incarnation of elfquest dot com (even though I ahem have been so busy I haven't managed to lurk properly here for some time).

Hm. Well, I have fiddled very little with WAMP before, but I do have a friend who is more tech/web savvy that will try to register and post about his know-how and what he has to offer tech-wise (including own server, should it be the best option regarding server stuff).

So, keeping fingers crossed for a good outcome, either way :)

Art and Elfquest / Re: Is EQFA redundant now?
« on: January 17, 2010, 12:35:54 PM »
Okay, finally got things working over there.. but honestly.  We already had some people who mostly hung out here because it was too complicated and big over at the Scroll.  Well, that's going to be ten times worse now!

I am not sure I like having an EQ version of Facebook.  The whole "friends" thing and being able to comment and vote on everything and anything.  That's why I have avoided Facebook to start with!  And visually, I like the friendly "feel" of the old Scroll forums - like this one for that matter.

We'll see.

Oh, and the photo gallery there is way less organized than here.

Ohyes, the first idea that struck me.. is that elfquest had turned into facebook when I saw the new look and content of elfquest.com :( I liked things the way they were with elfquest, cosy and not overly complicated. The only thing were the occasional server snags, and this kind of new content isn't really going to help..  The new social features feel too much to me.Those neat little icons for each section etc were so charming, I very much liked the old menu.

And EQFA's focus was always the fanart and the fiction, which is it best suited and well structured for (especially in this incarnation)!

So EQFA better not go anywhere! *spanks and clings to Foxeye* ;)

Yeah, sadly seems some people can experience discomfort with the 3D version, my friend said she had no problems whereas others in her family had, iirc :/ This was my first 3D movie though, and aside from the occasional odd feeling, I thought it was very cool (despite fuzzyness) and indeedy very gorgeous (I've been dreaming about having blue skin myself for aaaages, biased? hell yes!) :)

Said friend also did talk of that Earth 2 series after she had seen Avatar. I shall have to try and see all of that series, as I think I just saw a few eps many many moons ago.

Joyrider1978, Interesting.. as I see bits that reminds me of Rayek, Voll, Scouter, Cutter.. and Jareth ;) and Dune!

So, dollmakers with an elfin look, as a reply to that question? :)

Hmm, googling for "elf dollmaker" only seems to have gotten me this link as potentially good search result. I'm afraid I don't know any others offhand. I did make a few EQ pixeldoll bases before though, would that help at all, or would you rather not make clothes etc yourself?

I'm submitting Mournsong's (illustration) and my (colouring) combo entry just now... as I had hoped she'd mail be back, but I was some hour ish late submitting the final ish version to her yesterday (damn those leaves!), but worst case scenario I might have to send Windrider a slightly update version.

*keeps fingers crossed for Joyrider1978 and Faerydae!*

Yes, leaves.. pesky things! >_<

Hmm, Pacific Time, as in uh California time?
Then, there is quite the gap between that and Central European Time (since I'm in Sweden).

You mean dollmaker dolls with an elfin look then, not just general dollmakers/drag'n'drops?

Wouldn't .pdf be better though?
Since there can be x versions of MS Word and other, and thus also not certain the file will be seen as it was for the writer. And since the reader is meant to read, not be able to edit the file. But I know some people are not very fond of .pdf files..

Hmm.. I remember trying a program called Fractal Design Painter.. it had superb brushes alright (I never did manage to figure out how to use layers in it though...), but I'm not sure what did happen to it. But it seems Corel acquired it and took under its Corel Painter wing, so to speak?

« on: March 23, 2009, 12:15:04 AM »
Mirr, how did you get all the 2007 submissions?  Unformatted?  I think someone was doing mass downloads from the old site as it was tanking.  Sneaky, but I'm glad you did.  Those will work better than what I put up there.

*grins*
..yeah, since the old site was crumbling I thought I'd browse through the galleries and save down entries, just in case. And there is quite the spread in styles for calendar entries, so inspirational in many ways. I also tended to save down personal favourites overall, prior to that, so I'd have them in one place and not have to browse around so much to refind them :)

EDIT: It seems for the 2006 Calendar, "The Scream" was added to my gallery/account, but "The Cherishers" was not. As I at least don't think I can edit it.
*scratches head and tickles site code bits*

Makes me think of the vildvittror and vittror (mostly mentioned and acted upon) in the Ronja Rövardotter (Ronia, the Robber's Daughter) movie. Basically the Swedish version and some more creatively created ones to suit the movie, of the huldufólk :)

I found some 2006 entries too, but I'm not sure it is all of them, as one is labelled "entry 2 by X", and I could just find one entry by the artist in question, hmm. So unless they just meant it was file/version two for that entry..

Oh and, for 2007, I have 27 files/images, so I shall email those to Foxeye asap as well :)

« on: March 11, 2009, 03:17:56 PM »
Since the at the time site of convergence for most things to do with eq fanart calendar stuff had started on its demise, I think that also played part in artists struggling last year.. and yes, let's yay once more at the new home of all things eq fanart :D

But, as you say, there is not much new-new elfquest material out, and even fans must fend off real life every now and then, especially if the themes are tricky. Maybe the new site is just the kind of creative sparkle needed to get things back on track :)
