Part of a series of studies I did on Skywise and wolf Timmain. I was trying to teach myself to draw Elfquest wolves rather than my usual realistic ones. I think it definitely looks odd to have the wolves look too realistic when paired with the obviously stylized elves.
This one is pretty rough, but shows how I start with flowing "motion lines" and add details later.

I like the roughness, actually, somehow sketches reveal something about the artist, I think! I actually enjoy watching sketches and doodles more that finished works... I don't know why... the wolf definately looks happy and playfull!...
