The old badger is finally done! Man, this took so much longer than I expected. And true to his character, Bearclaw didn't always make it easy for me. But the ride was so much fun! And choosing his animal companion was pretty easy. Once more I tried to incorporate elements that were important in his life. I actually almost completely redrew the background. It was much more serene and sunlit originally. But I really prefer this wild one. He always said that a Wolfrider's life was short and sharp like lighting after all. I will do the calendar entry next, but already am looking forward to my next portrait as well.

Holy shit, Treefox! You have outdone yourself with this! Even the miniscule thumbnail had me impressed! And now I need to stop using the exclamation points before I lose the emphasis. The coloring is so vivid and lifelike that Bearclaw just jumps out of the flat 2D and grabs you. I agree that the storm background is more appropriate for him, and I think the colors you used help bring him even more to life. He himself was a storm, and the cool greens of the dense forest contrast the hot temper of the character. He's got that wild expression, again matching the storm. Somehow, it seems he has absorbed the badger's temperament for himself so the badger can be calm and relaxed. And that badger is perfectly rendered! The gleam off of Newmoon and the wolf's head pendant is just gorgeous. The bear skin cloak, Joyleaf's headband vines/flowers...amazing. It may have driven you nuts, but for the viewer, it all came together with perfection and was worth it. And here I was trying not to log in to the website or turn on my computer - silly me! What a reward! I wish I could come up with more praise, but not feeling well, so this was the best I could do. Keep up the gorgeous work, don't put that pencil (or equivalent) down!

Oh, an impressive an colourful rendition of him from a non-standard perspective. Including badger and blue petals. :)
He looks very alive, especially his face, his eyes spark of it, being ready for action: mischief, fight, he's up to everything.
Very vivid and very detailed!

@Amberfox wooow. Aww, thank you so so very much. I literally blushed reading your comment. My husband even noticed. :)
It's really so motivating to get such nice feedback. And thanks for noticing that his coat is bear skin. Because, of course it would be. :D It did take long, but it was truly wild fun. Researching badgers, I actually learned that at least the European badger is a pretty friendly and very social creature. They are less nasty than their image. :D and I also tried out different poses for the badger. This one I liked best. Sometimes I wish I could upload the time  lapse video so you could see my different ideas during the sketch phase.
@jaRf: thank you very much! Exactly, Bearclaw is always ready for everything! :)

I see the lightning not just as a nod to something he said, but also to how he created his own doom, with the fight he had with the human shaman during a lightning storm. All these little details in your picture seem to tell all his stories at once! That's quite something!

Afke!!!!!!!! So happy to see you here! How are you doing? I miss your art! I hope you are feeling more inspired lately. And thank you so much for your kind comment!
And yep, the lightning was also a reference to that event. Even though it's retconned event... Still fits Bearclaw very well. Trying to tell his stories all at once is exactly what I was trying to accomplish here. Thanks for noticing. :love I will try to continue to do this with my future pictures as well. For some this is easier as for others...
