To live, or not to live, in The Way
by Elftanner
Strongbow is lost. His lifemate is gone. His chief is gone. His way of life is gone. He is reaching out to Moonshade for strength. Trying to understand how to change. Trying to find t he strength to change.

Ah, Final Quest and all its edges and corners... I'm still uncertain how to deal with all of that. But then, it seemed like Moonshade and him got estranged more and more and thus it seems like a logical consequence that she's now entirely a spirit-kind and he's still solid and rooted in the world of two moons. Your art is a good synopsis of that.

Strangely, I never quite understood Moonshade becoming so...tame(?), but hers wasn't my story to tell. I think you captured the mood and the story itself very well. It seems she is sad to not be able to physically contact Strongbow but is still content with her choice. Poor Strongbow; I'm sure he is comforted by her presence and being able to reach out to her metaphysically, but hurting by being so far away.

While I liked the general idea of the conflict between Moonshade and Strongbow, I absolutely missed Moonshade's motivation to stray from the Way. I wish we had seen her internal motivation more.... anyway, this is a beautiful and touching depiction of their fate.

I didn't understand Moonshade becoming tame either. I thought it was so sudden, and the conflict between Moonshade and Strongbow was hard for me. I could see her wanting to do her own thing after so long of following Strongbow. I can see his stubbornness getting in the way of following her. What I couldn't get was Moonshade completely giving up on the way, and, Strongbow not even trying to compromise for her wanting something more. I know he has always been uncomfortable with magic, but he would rather lose Moonshade to the stars than try to get over his feelings for magic to make her happy?
This image was definitely what you think it seems to be Amberfox. She is content, but wishes she could comfort him, always thinking of him, and it took her death for him to finally get over the magic of the palace. He just wants to be near her in any way possible. |
