Warlord
by Amberfox
I'll post this one again when I have access to my home computer. I drew this character ages and ages ago and decided to update him. I'll post his original concept illo next to this one so you can hopefully see improvements I've made over the many years. Meanwhile, this is one of my characters over in the Wolf Elves of Sagewinds Holt/World Paths. And trust me, if you think he has a LOT of hair now, just wait to you see the "then" illo.

Like Terra, he doesn't need a blanket for the night! Hahaha! again, I love the detailing on the weapons, and that the sword seems to have weight... it always a pleasure to see things like that! I also like the pose, as if he is telling others not to mess with him, using only his pose... not sure if he himself notices messaging such thing or not! but I believe it's unintentional... and again! how do you manage all those details in hair without going mad! I really could not do anything that detailed!...

It mostly started out in our roleplay games that our characters just didn't have the time or the concern to sit around and be stylish. If hair grew, it grew; most were too busy with life in general to bother. If sections got in the way, they'd just take a sword and slice it off. That's why so many of the characters have jagged hair. Plus, so many characters have shoulder length hair, why go with the norm? Yes, Warlord means business. He's very aggressive and has no sense of humor. It doesn't take much to get this guy into a fight, just stand there long enough, that'll work. Shading hair is no problem at all for me, but I find I have trouble making short hair look good, but maybe that's just my interpretation of it. Thanks again for the comments!

It's pretty similar with Terra! she never cuts her hair if she doesn't have to... Laluna on the other hand had her braid cut off once, thus she has shorter hair! Tomi cuts his hair to use it as lines in some delicate traps and such... Marut... I actually don't think his hair ever gets longer than that? he shaves his beard but has never done anything to his hair... (or his hair gets bitten/torn off by all the bears after him without anyone noticing!)... Gotta say Warlord's pose tells much about him in that case! man, I've always been bad at drawing hair! I usually run out of patience even with short hair! and I don't think your short haired characters look bad at all!...

I actually have unsteady hands and shading in hair is easy for me because I use very fast strokes with my pen. I also find art is really relaxing, so shading hair works especially when I am at work. Shading is much better than smacking my lazy fellow labrat that rarely bothers to do his basic job.

I also find art relaxing, but I can't focus on hair too much for some reason! that's why I always admire artists who really can put time and effort for things like that! I also really adore you clean black and white art, it's just beautiful to look at!...

He looks wild and truly like he means business. Really that hair just is gorgeous and makes me want to touch it.
And drawing is definitely one of the most relaxing things for me... really should make time for it. *sniff* |

It is for me as well, although I get frustrated easily because I always think I could have done better. Argh. Anyway, I still need to post the original illo I did of him billions of years ago and post it to the "then and now" section.
