Preserver Color Plate Toon

An experiment at applying the 'toon' style to pre-existing (iconic?) images. In this case, Wendy Pini's color plate of Preservers seen in the Wolfrider's Guide and a comic insert.

I used a grid overlay to get the shape of the branch correct so everything that was going to go on top of it would end up in the right place. The thorns and webs were drawn onto that drawing without 'cheating'. Each toon-bug was sketched individually then photoshoped onto the branch sketch, using Wendy Pini's picture in an under-layer as a guideto get everyone's positions and scaling right. Or as right as they could be, given how much the green one in the foreground blocks out everything behind it. Finally everything was vector-inked and colored.

Hah!  What a neat idea for a project!  :)  I can definitely "see" the original in my head to compare this to, and it came out great.

Very nice idea indeed! The toon style looks so cute on the preservers and bings out their different personalities even more. Good work, looking forward to the next part!
