Illo for The Gathering Storm

This is another example of a collab between myself and Stacy L. (who owns Notch), the illustration of a key scene in a big recent storyline called "The Gathering Storm"; this was in Part 7, a scene written by Whitney.

Snowblind in a blizzard, Blacksnake and some of the wolves find themselves far too close to a human camp that he, Farscout and Brightwood have been spying on.  In our group's story history, this particular tribe of humans' first and last encounter with the elves ended fatally and pretty horrible for the elves. Now these humans have shown up again, after a long absence, and the tribe is in something of a controlled panic -- watching them closely, but trying to avoid confrontation or even giving the humans evidence that the elves still exist. Whoops!

I did the undersketch for this, while Stacy did the inking and coloring digitally.

Oh wow! Really, the mood, coloring and expressions in this are superb! Have I ever seen a human drawn by you before? I can't recall... Anyway, the difference between elf and human is clearly visible. I just love this dark gray setting with all the snow swirls. A wonderful collaboration. Still a bit strange to see work from you not colored with Copics. ;)

Indeed, this is the first time I've really drawn a human in an EQ context. :)  (Thanks!  I really liked how it came out, too.  Stacy's digital coloring, I think, makes it even more atmospheric than I could have done; at least, than I could have done easily.  I would have had to lean on some digital effects as well.)
