Try, try again - RT Thornbow
by Jeb
I'm always interested in learning about other's drawing processes. I'm still learning to block out drawings first, so I still usually just draw something, and if I don't like it, start again. If not interesting, it might at least provide an embarrassed chuckle.
Again from River Twine, this is Thornbow the archer. This actually changed quite a bit from first sketch to coloring. As is often the case, there are some things I like better in the sketch that I just wasn't able to preserve as I worked on it.

Nice perspective on this. I really like that you straightened his head for the shot on the re-draw. The arm band and his eyes are a match that works well to bring the attention to the Elf behind the bow.
I have to say I like both your traditional method of coloring and your digital one. Have you ever done a cannon elf ? |

This is a very difficult perspective. I am always amazed how Wendy draws all these perspectives without any difficulties. You pulled it off very well.

I always like seeing black and white because the character can really shine through without the distraction of color. That said, there are a couple aspects I really like in the sketch but overall, I think the final is better overall. Extending the arms/shoulder farther from the body gives it a better proportion. Opening the eye more also helps since I don't think his eyes are downsloping or "puppy-like" which is how it appears in the sketch. The dramatic shading brings it all together, too!
