RTH: Wolfmane and Dove

Done for a recent "New Life / New Love" contest at RTH.  I had never actually drawn these two interacting before, and hadn't drawn them at all in years, so I wanted to try to do something with them that wasn't just a portrait.  These are the parents of One-Leg and Blacksnake.  Everybody says they can really see Blacksnake in his father, but I also wanted to convey, in his expression and things like the shape of his nose, his resemblance to One-Leg as well.

Meh, things I don't like so much about this -- mainly that I struggled with the hand-holding and this is not really how I wanted it to come out.  Overall this caused a surprising amount of trouble, for what is really a bog-standard set of wolfriding poses; I went through like 5 sketches.  The challenge came in their needing to be linked at the hands, and my wanting Wolfmane to seem like he was stretching out to reach her.  Off to practice more hands!  Also I do not like the placement of the wolf's head, and I think it might be too small.

Brush-pen inks, Copic markers, some effects in PS.

I really like how you captured the look of  "the boys" in both the parents.   This was a favorite of mine for that contest; I voted win.   Every picture I see of Dove has been wonderful.  She is a really nice character, one that I always want to know more about.

Even if it might not have come out exactly the way you wanted it to the emotions come across so very well. For me the poses of the hands seem like he wanted to tease her somehow and she caught his hand before he could achieve his goal.
I agree that the wolf's head might be a bit too small, but I think I wouldn't have noticed it if you hadn't pointed it out. The face of the wolf is great as always.
The layout of this reminds me a bit of this one pic in OQ #4 of Joyleaf and Bearclaw, the one where she has the dead pheasant across her shoulder.

Thanks!  Ha ha, yes, Treefox -- that pic of Bearclaw and Joyleaf is a favorite of mine, too (for obvious Bearclaw-fan reasons  ;) ), and I was trying to make this stand out from that one. (After decades of reading EQ and admiring all of the art, it's all too easy for a particular panel or composition to get lodged in your subconscious.  I sometimes really have to think about a composition and try to make sure that I'm not unconsciously copying something I saw from the comics.)
