Solitaire - Now and Then
by Christina Raibert
Left - 2003, Right - 2013
Yesterday I found some very old elf art of mine in the EQfanart Yahoo group. I didn't even remember half of those and seeing them now makes me cringe. What was I ever thinking when I put those up ten years ago? :faintSo I decided to take this challenge and redraw one. I don't have the slightest clue who this elf was supposed to be, only that her name was Solitaire and she was (again according to Yahoo) from Stream Valley Holt. Given the background was green I made her a Wolfrider I'm tremendously relieved that the new pic isn't ugly like the old one!

10 years is a great gap for this challenge! I think you nailed it. There's so much life in your new version! Considering facial proportions the old one isn't that bad, just that her mouth should be placed more to the right, but ah yes, it's so flat and pixely looking. Great showing of improved skills.

Yeah, I remember the freaking nightmare that was drawing with MSpaint - back then even getting the gradient-like effect on the eye seemed a great accomplishment. Glad you like nouveau her! Don't remember if she was meant to be a flirt - but she certainly is now

Oh, this is great! This challenge is still simply great! What a difference! The shining hair and strong colors are wonderful.
But kudos for drawing the old one with MSpaint! That is darn impressive! |

Haha thanks, the nouveau her is very proud of the shiny hair XD I nicknamed her the l'Oreal Elf because she seems about to do the hair swish thingy and it's hilarious! :roflmao:
MSPaint was my tool of the trade back then - add to it that I didn't even have a pressure-sensitive tablet but just a mouse, so it wasn't very easy to control. Oh well - glad my art *and* tools have improved with time! |

I thought you used MSPaint. For then in 2003, that is a strikingly good Solitaire in it! But what you used for now...WOW! That is artwork to be deeply proud of!!! I need to do my elf Peacekeeper from a sketch in 1984 which I thought was my best sketch ever to a tool version today...now that's a then and now that will be a big challenge!

Thanks! I'm really glad the new version turned out well, I'll be taking the challenge with some others really old pictures I found in that folder - geez, I didn't remember half of them!
Woah... from 1984? That would be pretty amazing to watch. Looking forward to it As for Solitaire and PK, I don't think you'll have to tell her twice |
