Illo for "Cubname"

I did this as an illustration for the story "Cubname" by Razzle, owner of Chicory; and also as an entry in the "Family Time" contest just ended at RTH. This was the story of Chicory's birth to Chieftess Easysinger and Blacksnake. There's a lot of family connections here -- their older son (and future chief) Windburn is in the background, with their granddaughter Goldspice. The fellow kneeling nearby is Leather, Easysinger's brother, with his lifemate Stormdancer looking over his shoulder; (and Snowfall in the forground). In the far background are Blacksnake's brother One-Leg, and Farscout, who is Goldspice's brother.
What I'm most pleased about with this one is that I didn't cop out on including everyone I originally intended to include. (Often I come up on deadlines and pare down a more ambitious idea to just a few figures.) I even decided at the last moment to add all the tribe's Preservers, and followed through on it. So that's something, even if I'm not fully happy with the way everyone turned out.

This looks so comforting and nice. Must be lovely to be born into such an atmosphere. I just think that the new born baby looks a bit too old. Much better than anything I could do, mind you! Babies are hard to draw... Mine tend to look like dried sausages.
And once more kudos for including so many characters. It really creates this very Wolfrider-like feeling of being like a big family. |

Sigh. Another vanishing act from a wonderful artist. I also love the idea of this group shot, showing that this is a family that came together for the birth. It's a sweet and loving scene that you don't really have in some other holts (canon stories as well as fan based). I agree with Treefox that this is such a comforting scene and warm atmosphere. I also agree that the newborn looks more like a few months old rather than a newborn, and they are hard to draw. Still, it's a beautiful scene, so inviting with great depth of color and shading.

Oh yes, I miss her and her art a lot. What a great style.
 I think she quit the fandom altogether after she closed her holt down. So sad.

This is what I meant with "vanishing artists". There was a lot of good art coming via River Twine Holt. Sometimes, people also get frustrated over things and quit. This is very sad. The images from Eregyrn were always of good line-art and vibrant in colours.
