I really love this picture for personal reasons. Last month, my dad had to sell his home after 20 years. He was really down. My sister and me also tried to comfort him then.

Whoa! what's the story here? I think I have missed something! (no wonder, I've been away far too long) The expressions are just fantastic, and the way she holds his hand really adds to the feeling... and Dreamcat, I'm sorry to hear about your father, I hope it's better now, but no doubt it will take time for things to settle down...

Sorry to hear about your dad, Dreamcat. Feels like dreams being destroyed.

You didn't miss anything, Berit, this is way in the past.
Earthquakes destroyed the mountains where the Zonnemeer's waterfall sprung, and after the water being blocked by rocks for a while it burst and flooded the woods where the elves lived. It causes them to flee to the only other holt they know, Zomerbron -- but they're set in the same mountainrange and had their caves collapsing on them, causing them to flee in the direction of Zonnemeer! Halfway they meet and decide to start a new holt with the survivors:
This is what Zilte Muzen is, they settle in a holt near the sea, and that is where most of my Fladder and Zoetgras pictures are about, of the two groups coming together (and some trolls without a home thrown into the mix as well).

For Schudspeer the Zonnemeer holt has been home the longest; he was part of the nomad group which found the lake when he was 9. All the others were born way way after him.

Oh, I see! I think it is good to give hardships to characters, those that are not just "big monster come! go kill!" type... natural disasters are something that no one can do anything against. feel bad for them, it is always hard to lose something precious, something that you though will always be there...

Finally replaced the sketch with a finished picture for OC-tober 2020 (after 7 years!). ;D

Look's awsome! I can really feel his pain. You did a wonderful job with the dim colors, they add a lot to the mood for me.
Nice you replaced the sketch after seven years I really love the outcome!

Ooh, indeed this is so sad. The colors are so subdued and wonderful.
How was it to work on a picture from seven years ago?

I was gonna make a new post, but then read in the description of this one I promised to replace it once finished, and thought that was a better idea anyway. The line-work of the sketch was awful, and it had always bothered me; I fixed it with a totally different pen.
You can still see the sketch over on the EMG Sketch Fest site: https://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/sketchfest/sketchfestart.php?id=8671

Because I haven't drawn that many elf pictures in the past years, it didn't feel all that old to be honest. I have a couple more lying around that I might give a go as well. Some need fixing of the lines as well, and then will look a whole lot better.
There's things I'd do differently now, but in general I still liked it and saw its potential. Sometimes it's also good to just finish some things to clear your head. ;)

Thanks for the insight. :)
I think I can relate to what you are saying. I haven't really drawn much in ages, so I find my style not changing as much as it used to.
