Haze and Farbright

Slightly darker, richer toned filler piece I did for the Elfquest calendar 2014. I wasn't sure which one Windrider used or which one looks better, so I'm posting them both. Farbright and Haze are Recognized lifemates in the Wavedancers, and we're introduced to them already killed by humans. The rumor is these two are the parents of Brill and Krill, at least last I heard. I'm not sure the tail turned out okay; it seemed a mauve-pink-red-violet sort of concoction, so I thought I'd try and use the colors as flecks and spots that you see naturally in fish. Anyway, here they are.

I like this darker version a lot more, actually, all the small details shine out, and yet again, the shading gives more the feeling of dimension... the amount of details on the tail and hair are absolutely stunning... and I like how the fins are a bit transparent, looks wonderful...

It looks very beautiful, though the tail does look a bit awkward. Maybe make it thinner towards the end where the fin is? Its also a bit long, but still very beautiful. I absolutely love the hair, and your amount of detail is mind blowing. I would not have the patience for all those scales.

They are so nicely intertwined and the colors shine. The details are indeed amazing. So happy to see so much of your stuff in the calendar.

I like this one, too. You always do fabulous hair, Amberfox, and the lovely detail you put into their body postures and her tail are sinuous and stunning. I do agree with Destiny about how the tail should taper a bit more.

Thank you all for your comments. At first I thought, well, no, the tail is curved into the background and then comes back forward...oh, damn! They're right! Yes, the tail should taper more or at least come in front of Haze's legs more to give it a more "foreground" appearance. Ah well. Maybe someday I can clean it up a little and repost it. As for the tail length, well, that's a little more of a personal preference; some like the longer look and others like to keep the tail as long as the legs would've been. I just went for it, and I can't disagree it's too long. Darn. Anyway, glad you all like it; it was a last minute job and I think my favorite out of the lot I drew for the calendar. Of course, the original is still much better.
