But...

by Startear

Can't believe I forgot to bring this here, seeing I've never been as proud or had so much fun as I had with this one. Both of them are made on the moment and for the practice of designing outfits.

The male character is human, called Zar, while the elf is called Jinali. (Thanks to Nilla for giving me the names.) One of her drawings also inspired for the hair design to Jinali

Base: http://www.bunnystick.com/bt.html

It wasn't said on the site, but the pose is from a manga called Blade of the Immortal

;D*Dies laughing* You took both my name suggestions and got inspired by Tohrana's hair? Oh gosh!  :D Btw, I'm starting to get really interesting in what these peoples story is.

Why, of course. Both of them fit so well. I plan to write their story when my drawing muse starts calming down.

It didn't say on the page, so I'll assume not. But I've seen him/her do commissions on DA.

well, the base is based on a picture of one of my favourite mangaka, so I just wondered...

Yes, the pose is from Blade of the Immortal. Loved that manga, but never got beyond 5 or 6 th issue because they stopped selling it at the places I went.

Wouldn't surprise me, since referencing poses from other people's art is likely as common in base-making as it is in other art. Whether they traced or just referenced is not something I'm skilled enough to determine, though in either case a call back to the inspiration would be nice, I'll agree.

This particular base is tricky because people often use it for characters that aren't meant to be such different sizes, and I'm sensitive to that sort of accuracy. In this case it was the perfect choice and you used it beautifully, Startear. :)

It was under the traced bases on the site, so I think that is the case here. I found Bunnystick on Da, and posted a link to it on her profile. So far he/she hasn't said anything, so I guess it's okay. If I get a notice that it's not okay, I'll remove it of course :)

Yeah, I think it is important to use characters which have a clear difference in height when using a base like this. Strongbow and Moonshade would look rather ridiculous here. When making it I was going without thought of who or which tribe etc it would be. In the original, Rin is sixteen while Manji has lived for quite a while, he looks to be around twenty-eight.  When Jinali was done, I concluded that his body was simply too course and tall to be one of the same tribe/race. Of course it may happen in real life among humans, but the elves in the series don't have the same height diffrences, so I just decided to drop it out.

Besides, I like the thought of a human and elfin tribe being on peaceful terms. Especially when the elves are more nervous about it than the humans. Jinali isn't as afraid of them as the others, but they are still on tense grounds.

When he is not looking into one, he plays flute. Or in one case, kills his father. Long before this shot.

You know that sad myth that if you have HIV or Aids and sleep with a virgin, you'll be cured? They have their own version of this. If you are mute, or silent one as they call it, it is believed that sleeping with the shaman will cure you. His mother was one, and it was never cured. Since they believe that silence is the enemy of the world, she was barely tolerated by the tribe. While Zar, son of the shaman, took care of her through basic herbal healing. The shaman refused from singing in her funeral, which was ten years after he was born. Two years later, he killed his father, putting the "Sacred Cabin" on fire. No one suspected a thing.

Zar told me this a few days ago.
