Honey and Mooncrier (update)

Continuing to work on updating the RTH tribe, I wanted to do Honey in order to show some of the changes she's made recently, taking up hunting.

Deciding to include her wolf-friend, Mooncrier was spur of the moment, and we'll see how wise it is to continue doing it. It's a good idea in several ways, and helps distinguish this round of the Big Group picture pieces from the last one... but it means I'm going to have to come up with a LOT of wolf figures, and ugh. (Wasn't happy in the end with how her face came out.)

The usual media: Pentel Pocket-Brush Pen inks, Copic marker coloring, effects in PS.

Do you mean the face of the wolf or Honey's face?
No matter, because I like both! The wolf has an almost worried look. A very aware one anyway. The stature of the wolf is so beautiful. Again it just looks big enough for an elf to really ride on it.
And Honey! So neat to see more short haired characters. The color fits her name. The greens and browns on the outfit and the design is flawless as to be expected from you. Nice bow! I think the hand position holding the arrow is rather difficult to draw. I am dealing with something similar for my next fanart pic.
Haha, for the lighter browns I just thought: Hm, that looks like Copic "Light Camel" or "Chamois". I am definitely using too much Copic markers lately. :faint

The face of the wolf. ;)  Although yes, the concerned look is compatible with the personality she's supposed to have.

I really like female characters with short hair!  I wish more people would do that; I think it looks extremely cute.  Thank you re. the hand position with the nocked arrow -- I know what it feels like but to draw it I wind up twisting my hand all around and looking in the mirror.

Also totally yes: the light browns are E31 (Brick Beige) and E55 (Light Camel), with E44 (Clay) for the deepest tones.  I will have to check out Chamois!  I don't have it, but I am always searching for more subtle middle gradations.  It drives me NUTS that the numbering system is not quite consistent and the place I buy from has swatches but they might as well be labelled "actual color of marker may not look anything like this", so I feel like I'm always half guessing.  Though, most of my experimental orders have turned out well.

We should, like, start a Tools of the Trade thread where Copic users could trade tips on the colors or color combos people have found that they like.  (I wish I was smart and wrote down more of the standard combos I use for various things I have to do over and over, like hair colors.)

Oh yes, I was twisting my hand terribly to see what it would look like from that certain angle that I needed... Geesh, what we go through for a good, quality pic.

Hm, a thread about the use of Copic markers doesn't sound like a half bad idea to me. Even though I never remember what color I used for what. But maybe I could change that! Apart from that I usually use also watercolors in addition to markers. But I would be very interested to hear about combinations and about how people handle these things.
Concerning Chamois: it would fit in well with the brown tones you used here. It's a not so dark, slightly greyish brown. It may not sound so pretty but I use quite often. When I bought my markers well over 10 years ago, I really bought a lot of browns. Nowadays I think more than ever that that was a smart choice. I use those moderate colors much more than shrill blues, reds, etc.
The store where I buy markers nowadays now only has one type with a brush tip (which I like). The downside to this is, that the name of the color is not written on top of the cap anymore. So looking at the pens from above it's much harder to fathom which color is which.
Agh, will stop babbling now...

This image takes me back to the day I discovered ElfQuest. Started out with Wolfrider, and it took me painfully long time to understand that the elves were small. I always thought that the wolves were bigger, seeing that this was an ancient world. I especially like Mooncrier's fur.  Honey's hair is gorgous, short haired characters are nice, just as seeing not white blond characters. About Honey, I really like her a character. (Yes, I lurk on the site.) I can relate to how her frustration of how her life turned makes her lash out against others. When I'm not with my relatives people see me quite differently, and I'm sure if she met other tribes they would too.

Goodness, she's so tiny! I remember being rather surprised over her height.  XD I think the wolf turned out great.
