Susi
by Czarine
"Susi" means "wolf" in Finnish. I decided to post this here since this ain't a certain wolf from the series. Got inspired by the Blood of the Ten Chiefs I've been reading.
And since I'm at work (hush! don't tell anyone I'm doodling while working!), I had to use Paint. Long time no see, pixel art!

I'm out of words... that cliff also looks wonderful as well as the moon itself... how long did it take for you to do this?... and naughty you, drawing while you should be working, I'd never do anything like that! *plays innocent*...

I'm curious. How did you make this? It's gorgeous, but I can't figure out *how* you did it xD
(thought. Does "pixel art" mean that you placed every single pixel individually?) |

Wildfire: Hmm, maybe pixel art isn't quite the right word, since I didn't put the pixels in individually. I meant art done by pixels in general. The proper word might be Paint art, or something similar.
I used almost entirely the spray tool to make this. Berit has done some Paint art with spray tool, and I hadn't considered using it, so I decided to give it a try. I paintbucketed the background dark blue, then went to Edit Colours to pick up a lighter blue, then painted the sky over with the spray tool, leaving the top darker. Did the same for the pink area as well. Then I painted in the moon and the stars, all with spray tool ('xcept the smallest stars). I picked suitable colours from the Edit Colours. |

(continuing the previous):
I used the same tactics on the forest and the rocks. I painted everything from the back to the front (since there're no layers in Paint), the wolf being the last thing. Most of the colours were picked from Edit Colours, defaults being only black, white, grey and some blues. I usually paint the midtones first, then the shadows, and highlights last. The order changes depending on the situation. I tried to avoid using "raw colours" (pure colours, with no tint whatsoever, like basic red, blue, yellow, black, white...) but instead used desaturated or tinted colours, such as a light grey for some of the highlights. Only the deepest shadows and brightest highlights got black and white. |

Berit: As if! You draw non-stop!! Umm, I think this took about an hour or so. I had to leave it for a few hours to guide some visitors so I'm not sure.

Surprising, when you take into account how few people actually speak native Finnish...
Oh, and if people want to go off-topic, I don't mind. Permission granted from my part. |
